Day 1:
Arrival in hotel close to Assisi
The start of your cycling-tour is close to Assisi, the pilgrims town built against the slope of the mountain 'Monte Subasio'. Its mighty stature of ramparts, towers and roofs can be seen from far. Assisi has a strong unbreakable bond with the saints Frances and Clare. On the day of your arrival you will be able to explore the town with its little alleys and squares. On the 'Piazza del Comune' is the famous Roman temple of Minerva. Your overnight stay is in an hotel between Assisi and Spello, another beautiful old fortified town with gates and an amphitheatre. After your sightseeing cool off in the hotel pool.
Day 2:
Assisi to Torgiano, 68 miles (108km)
Today’s bike route is through the valley of Spoleto. You will pass many little towns like Spello, which is situated on the southern slopes of mount Subasio, Spoleto, a town with a long history and Montefalco, famous for its excellent wines. The next town you will visit is Bevagna with its two Romanesque churches in the mediaeval square. Your overnight stay is in Torgiano, in mediaeval times a fortified village. It is situated on a hill above the confluence of the Rivers Cascio and Tiber. There is a 'palazzo' with a wine museum and the ‘osteria’ of the Lungarotti family, where you can taste their excellent wines. After your cycling you may like to relax around the pool and take a refreshing dip.
Day 3:
Torgiano to S.Feliciano at lake Trasimeno, 65 miles (105km)
Today you will cycle through an undulating landscape with some steep climbs to conquer now and then, to be rewarded with a magnificent view of Lake Trasimeno. You will pass small, typical Umbrian towns such as Montegiove with its impressive castle, Montegabbione and Panicale, which still has a well preserved 13th century Palazzo del Podestà.
Day 4:
Circular tour around lake Trasimeno passing Chiusi in Tuscany, 62 miles (100km)
Today you can have a rest day or cycle around the lake. Lake Trasimeno is the fourth largest lake in Italy. It is surrounded on three sides by a backdrop of gentle rolling hills covered with olive trees. On the side facing Tuscany, a wide open plain stretches out. You will cross this plain going to the Tuscan town of Chiusi, which has an Etruscan origin. After your visit you return to your hotel by the lake.
Day 5:
S.Feliciano to Umbertide passing Cortona in Tuscany, 66 miles (105km)
A lovely route through the valley of the Tesse brings you to Cortona in Tuscany. This lovely Tuscan town is built on a hilltop. Leaving it behind, you will cycle on through a mountainous terrain with magnificent views over the surrounding mountains. Your overnight stay will be just outside Umbertide.
Day 6:
Umbertide to Gubbio passing Cagli in the Marche, 66 miles (106km)
Today you will reach the fortified hill town of Gubbio. You will cycle through the mountains, a beautiful tour through the green hills of the lower Apennines. You visit Montone, a quiet little town built on a hilly ridge (482m), situated between the Lana and Carpina streams, which are both tributaries of the Tiber. The route continues slowly uphill to Pietralunga with its old partially, walled-in centre and the Long bards Castle (8th century). You will pass through Cagli in the Le Marche region before arriving in Gubbio, where you will stay in a hotel in the centre of town.
Day 7:
Gubbio to Assisi, 56 miles (90km)
On this last day of the tour you will cycle through a beautiful and hilly landscape passing through quiet mountain villages. The day begins with a steep climb, but after that the road gently undulates until it brings you to the bottom of a valley. The last stretch brings you through characteristic little villages and finally you will see Assisi from afar, built on a spur of mount Subasio. If you still have energy left, you could decide to extend your route with an extra loop around the mountain.

Departure from Assisi
