Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Assisi

The start of your cycling-tour is close to Assisi, the pilgrims town built against the slope of the mountain 'Monte Subasio'. Its mighty stature of ramparts, towers and roofs can be seen from far. Assisi has a strong unbreakable bond with the saints Frances and Clare. On the day of your arrival you will be able to explore the town with its little alleys and squares. On the 'Piazza del Comune' is the famous Roman temple of Minerva. Your overnight stay is in an hotel between Assisi and Spello, another beautiful old fortified town with gates and an amphitheatre. After your sightseeing cool off in the hotel pool.

Day 2: Assisi to Spoleto, 36 miles (58km)

First stop is the small medieval town of Spello, a town full of charm on the southern slopes of Mount Subasio. Then you continue through the valley, passing Foligno, and up to Spoleto. Your hotel is situated in the historical centre of Spoleto, close to the Roman theatre.

Day 3: Spoleto to Bevagna, 21 or 25 miles (35 or 40km)

This morning you have time to enjoy Spoleto, in particular, the historical centre inside the medieval town walls. Cycling through a slightly undulating landscape you will see Montefalco from afar. At the foot of this town you can choose to continue through the valley directly to Bevagna or to visit Montefalco, also named the ‘balcony of Umbria’, at the top of a steep climb. From Montefalco it goes downhill to Bevagna.

Day 4: Bevagna to Assisi, 31 miles (51km)

Today you cycle mostly through the valley. You will pass Torgiano, in medieval times a fortified village and now famous for its excellent red and white wines.. After Torgiano you will cross the valley cycling over quiet country roads back to the hilltop town of Assisi. Your overnight stay is in a hotel situated 3km from Assisi.

Day 5 Departure from Assisi to start your homeward journey.
