Day 1 Saturday: Arrive in Koblenz.
Founded by the Romans, Koblenz is set at the famous Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Just a quick stroll around the town will highlight the appeal of Koblenz - its romantic narrow streets, historical squares and picturesque alleyways in the old quarter. Embarkation is from 4.00pm
Day 2 (Sunday): Koblenz to Bingen to Mainz, 23 miles (37km).
The Fluvius takes you upriver from Koblenz to Rudesheim. From there you cycle via Bingen to Mainz, where you cannot fail to be captivated by the open, friendly atmosphere of the town and its people. You feel it wherever you go: wandering through the market or the lovingly restored old town or strolling along the banks of the river Rhine.
Day 3 (Monday): Mainz to Nierstein , 12 miles (20km).
Enjoy the quaint houses and unique atmosphere of Mainz on a cycle tour through the city. Then you cycle to Nierstein where you meet the Fluvius and have lunch on board. A tractor will take you into the vineyards, where wine tasting and a hearty meal end the day with proper style. This area of Germany, Rheinhessen, with its nearly thousand hills between Mainz, Alzey and Worms has a more than thousand year old tradition of wine-growing. Rheinhessen - the largest German wine-growing area has got treasures dating back to Roman times. Nierstein's wine "GLÖCK" is reputed as the oldest documented vineyard in Germany, owing to a document from the year 742.
 Day 4 (Tuesday): Nierstein to Worms, 25 miles (40km).
Cycle to Worms via Oggenheim. Guided city tour of Worms where you can enjoy the historic old town with dome and Nibelungen gate. Worms ( pronounced voems) Established by the Celts who called it Borbetomagus, Worms vies with the cities of Trier and Cologne over the title of "Oldest City in Germany".
Day 5 (Wednesday): Worms to Heidelberg, 34 miles (55km).
Leaving Worms you cycle via Lampertheim and Hemsbach to Weinheim and continue to Ladenburg. Along the river Neckar you cycle to Heidelberg, world famous for its romantic castle and its picturesque Old Town with its winding alleys steeped in history.
Day 6 (Thursday): Heidelberg to Eberbach, 24 miles (38km).
From Heidelberg via Ziegelhausen you explore the surroundings to Neckar-Gmünd. Through famous Odenwald forest to Neckarsteinach and Eberbach, a historic little town with a maze of narrow alleys. Eberbach Abbey is at the heart of the Rheingau, in a scenic valley away from noisy roads and busy towns, surrounded by woods and vineyards. The gates to the ancient abbey are open to visitors all year round. The abbey is also famous as the setting for the film "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery.
Day 7 (Friday): Eberbach to Bad Wimpfen, 25 miles (40km).
Fortress Hornberg in Neckarzimmern is the first important stage of the tour. Here Götz von Berlichingen used to live. Bad Wimpfen is a charming health and spa resort. The long history involved early settlements (stone-age), Celts and Germans, the Roman Empire, and flourishing centre of Germany’s famous nobility Hohenstaufer, home of Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa. Explore the modern and historic place, charming and lively.
Day 8 (Saturday): Departure from Bad Wimpfen.
Time to swap addresses and photos, say goodbye to the crew and to make your way home. |
Cruise and Cycle 
Enjoy historic German towns and cities, gentle riverside cycling, villages with narrow alleys, castles and fortresses in a history laden part of Germany. The Rhine formed most of the northern frontier of the Roman Empire, and since those days the Rhine has been a vital navigable waterway, carrying trade and goods deep inland. Historic towns such as Worms, Heidelberg and Eberbach allow a glimpse into an eventful past. 
The MS Fluvius is your home for the week and this river cruiser has a capacity of 38 people in 20 roomy and fully air-conditioned cabins.
