Prague to Dresden

Freedom Holiday Self Guided Grading Level 2
8 days/7 nights Price - £565pp Tour Code GE014

The Elbe, Germany's second largest river, flows through beautiful countryside. Its characteristic features include the towering Elbe Sandstone Massif, delightful riverbank meadows and impressive terrace vineyards in the region around Meissen. There are plenty of charming historical monuments along the riverSign near Prague including magnificent castles, palaces and lovely, preserved, historical "old towns".

This cycle tour connects two significant cultural and historical cities. Enjoy the magic of the golden city of Prague before continuing on to Germany through the rural areas of the Czech Republic. You will follow the river to Dresden passing through the bizarre rock formations of the Elbe sandstone mountains and pretty Elbe towns such as Melnik and Leitmeritz.

The tour is fairly flat and follows the run of the river Elbe downstream. The majority of the trails are in good condition and offer a wide range of cultural and leisure activities, making it ideal for travellers in every age group, for families and groups. The Elbe is one of the "slow" rivers. There is hardly any altitude, so it does not really matter whether you cycle upstream or downstream.

Moreover, during a walking tour you will discover the Old and Lesser Towns, the Baroque church of St. Nicholas, and Wencelas Square. Major reconstructions have now restored the Baroque past of the Saxon capital to its former splendour and the city boasts magnificent collections of fine and decorative arts in various palaces and museums. A visit to Theatre Square, the Cathedral, Zwinger Palace, the Royal Palace, the Procession of Princess, the Church of Our Lady, Brühl Terrace and Old Market Square will all impress.
