Heidelberg to Koblenz

Freedom Holiday Self Guided Grading Level 2
6 days/5 nights Price - £545pp Tour Code GE005

This tour rides along probably the most beautiful part of the Rhine, passing castles, vineyards and medieval towns. Starting in the old university town of Heidelberg the cycling takes you through the “Riviera” of Germany where almonds, figs, peaches and kiwis are cultivated. Many good German wines can be sampled while you stay in the 700 year old town of Zwingenberg. Via lush meadows and farmlands, you'll reach the first foothills of the Platine vineyards and follow them through numerous wine villages. In Mainz, the highly-impressive Chagall windows in St. Stephans Cathedral should not be missed, or perhaps a visit to the Gutenberg Museum.

Also en route will be the well-known wine village of Rüdesheim, where there is much to be experienced including a chair-lift to Niederwalldenkmal for amazing views of the Rhine Valley. From here, the central Rhine Valley region gives way to a breathtaking landscape where the river flows between defiant castles, sunny vineyards, through slate mountains; and further on, past the castles of Reichenstein and Sooneck as well as the island-castle of Pfalzgrafenstein. The most splendid of castles (in Marksburg) is also on the list. Then your journey will end in the commercial heart of the wine industry itself, namely Koblenz.
