Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Valkenburg .

Arrive in Valkenburg where you can visit the old castle ruins, the catacombs or the grottos.

Day 2: Valkenburg, 25 miles (40 km).

The highlights of this day trip are the cycle through the incrediblelandscape of the Brunshumer Heath and a visit to the Hoensbroeck Mansion.

Day 3: Valkenberg to Eupen, 28 miles (45 km).

Today, explore the beauty of the countryside: on your way to Eastern Belgium you will cycle through the hilly landscape of the Southern Mergel Country. On your way to Eupen, you’ll cycle through the Eupener Butterland’s grassy meadows. In the evening you may choose from many different little pubs, which invite you to explore Belgium’s incredible beer culture.

Day 4: Eupen to Monschau, 19 miles (30 km).

The day begins with an ascent to the Eupen Reservoir’s dam wall. After a short break, continue your journey by following the Getzbach through the unique landscapes of the hill moor “Hohes Venn”. Having crossed the border to Germany again at Mützenich, a steep run down to the Reichenstein Estate follows where you’ll reach the Rur. You’ll stay the night in the historical city of Monschau. Here you have a lot of time to take a stroll and experience the medieval flair of this beautiful town.

Day 5: Monschau to Aachen, 26 miles (42 km).

After a short but steep ascent you’ll arrive in Mützenich. From there on the rest of the trip to Aachen will be almost entirely downhill. Cycling again through the nature reserve “Hohes Venn”, you’ll arrive in the border town of Roetgen. On your way you’ll cycle on the Vennbahnweg, a disused railway line. Take a break in the historical inner city of Korneliusmünster then continue on the Vennbahnweg until you reach Aachen.

Day 6: Explore Aachen.

Today you can explore the picturesque and historical old part of Aachen. Relax in a beer garden and spend the evening in a cosy restaurant.

Day 7: Aachen to Valkenberg, 24 miles (39 km).

You cycle through the region north of Aachen, and after a few kilometres you meet the border to the Netherlands, where the Mergelland hills offer a fantastic view. The last lap of this journey takes you past several castles until you again reach Valkenburg – the Las Vegas of the Netherlands.

Day 8: Departure from Valkenburg.
