Day 1 Arrival in Valtice.
You will be met at either Prague or Brno airport and transferred to Valtice in Moravian Slovakia.
Day 2 Round trip from Valtice 39 miles.
The first day of cycling takes you through Breclav, gateway to the Lednice-Valtice area, listed as an UNESCO heritage. The area is formed by 8 villages from the Breclav region and has many historical monuments – hard to reach them all. A castle founded in the 13th century, following some disquiet, was rebuilt to become a fortress with walls up to 5 metres thick.
Day 3 Valtice to Mikulov 21 miles.
Today you will follow the border with Austria in a westerly direction and you will eventually arrive at the National Park Podyji, a stunningly beautiful valley through which winds the River Dyje (Thaya). The historic town of Mikulov is a favourite pilgrimage point and its numerous wine cellars help you to soak up the unique atmosphere of this town. The centre of Mikulov, with its oblong sloping square and the church of St. Wenceslas, ranks among the most charming of historical Moravian town centres.
Day 4 Mikulov to Znojmo 40 miles.
Today you will continue in a westerly direction to Znojmo, the regional capital and one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic (dating back to 6th century). Znojmo played an important role in the history of this country. The town and the surrounding area is well known as a wine producing area so there are lots of opportunities to visit wine cellars and to sample the local produce. Other points of interest include the castle which now houses the South Moravian museum and is one of the oldest museums in Moravia and the Rotunda of the Blessed Virgin Mary decorated with fresco paintings.
Day 5 Znojmo to Vranov 17 miles.
The ride to Vranov takes you to 2 castles that are worth a visit on the way. Bitov, which is a well-preserved Gothic castle and chateau situated on a promontory between the Dyje and Želetava rivers, above Vranovská Dam, and Vranov, thought to be one of the most beautiful castles in the country, originally a royal castle and now a monumental Baroque chateau, is situated on a rocky headland.
Day 6 Vranov to Telc 50 miles.
The final days ride takes you to Telc, a romantic medieval town on the border of Moravia and Bohemia. It is reputed to be the best-preserved Renaissance town north of the Alps and is well known around the world for its unique preserved square and the magnificent renaissance chateau.
Day 7 Rest day in Telc or transfer back to Prague.
If you arrived in Prague, today you will be transferred back to Prague to give you time for sightseeing and relaxation in this beautiful city. Attractions to visit include Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town, Lesser Town Bridge Towers. Or you may prefer to go shopping and then take in a classical concert. The choice is yours. If you arrived at Brno then today will be a rest day in Telc with time to take a tour of the chateau or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere of this historic town.
Day 8 Depart.
Checkout from your hotel after breakfast and you will be transferred back to the airport. |
