Day 1: Arrival in Vienna to start cycling to Bad Deutsch Altenburg, 28 miles (46 km).
The Danube cycle path leads you on quiet paths through the national park Donauauen. This is the Danube flood plain National Park and is a green ribbon between the conurbations of Vienna and Bratislava, also home and refuge to many endangered plants and animals. You cycle pass the castles of Orth and Eckartsau until you reach the former Roman city Petronell-Carnuntum (Roman excavations) or the health resort Bad Deutsch Altenburg.
Day 2: Bad Deutsch Altenburg to Bratislava, 13 miles (21 km).
Soon you reach the border city of Hainburg and through the impressive nature reserve you continue directly to Bratislava the capital of Slovakia. This quaint old city centre with numerous historical sights, a lively pedestrian zone and countless restaurants and coffee shops will entrance you as you waner around.
Day 3: Bratislava to Vienna.
Bus ride from Bratislava to Vienna . Or if you prefer, it is possible to take the hydrofoil back to Vienna.
